IRS To Begin Processing Tax Returns Delayed by 2010 Late Legislation
What this means for our customers
Starting Monday, February 14, the IRS will BEGIN processing the returns of taxpayers who itemize their deductions or claim certain deductions and credits, such as the teacher expenses and tuition deductions.
The IRS held off processing these returns so it could update its systems to comply with last-minute tax legislation Congress passed in December 2010.
What does this mean for affected TurboTax customers?- The IRS has asked us to stagger our submissions of affected returns over five days, from February 14 to February 18.
- We are submitting these returns on a first in, first out basis.
- We are ALSO submitting returns filed starting Monday, February 14.
- Rest assured that we are working closely with the IRS to submit all our customer returns as promptly as possible.
Here's what to expect if you:
Already filed with TurboTax and you itemized your deductions or claimed an affected deduction
Waited to file with TurboTax and you will be itemizing or claiming an affected tax deduction
Qualified to itemize or claim an affected tax deduction, but you opted to file early without claiming them
Itemized or claimed any affected deductions and filed only your state return
