I've used Nagios before from time to time. One of our other companies uses it I believe. It all depends on what you're looking to monitor. I would recommend one that has plugins or some API that enables you to write your own plugins, mods, etc for custom monitoring of services.

Ive used server progs on Xp but cant ever get em to work the way i need em to, I have an old gateway 400 mhz PC so if I ran a server OS would people be able to access it.
